Job Search

Sat Aug 16, 2008, 2:49 AM
Hello watchers,

So I'm in bad need of a full-time job. I'm not at the point where I am going to apply at the 7-11 down the road yet, but I'm getting there. (Their sign says night-shift needed, which makes it that much more enticing.)

I'm going to be visiting LA for the entirety of next month, portfolio packets in hand, in attempt to find a job, or at least get my info out there.

The work I want to do is in the area of visual development for animation, but really I'd do whatever I could get (storyboards, cleanup, background, layout) for an animation studio or otherwise.

That said, if anyone knows of any studios in the area that are hiring or at least would be a good place to drop my info off at, feel free to comment or pm me.

Hopefully at the very least, I'll get some freelance work out of it.

**On a related note: If you know of ANY studios that might be good to contact ANYWHERE, don't hold back.

Thanks folks

Ever try Creativeheads.net? It posts a pretty decent listing of available animation/game jobs, although a lot are for 3D. There are a couple of design jobs hidden in there. You could try Juju.com, but it's not the most user friendly search (disregard the categories and just use keywords). I'd suggest finding company websites and applying to them regardless of whether they're hiring or not. If they have a job listing that looks for more experience than you've got, apply anyway. They sometimes put high requirements on there to discourage people who aren't serious. Most companies though are willing to settle for less if the person has a good enough body of work, and they're more than willing to train you. For the ones in LA, let them know you'll be in the area, and would like to set up an interview if at all possible. Sorry I don't have any specific info, but I wish you the best of luck with your job search!

Thanks for the advice!
Your the 2nd person to suggest calling ahead and trying to set up an interview, so I'm definitely going to give that a shot.

Thanks Ferg! I remember seeing that and completely forgot about it. I think I'll look into it when I get back from LA.
